Painting my dining room...?

The theme at the moment is kind of country-ish (NOT, my style) but the furniture in there right now is what has to be used until we can get it replaced. We have medium wood table / hutch ... the other furniture was painted a dark olive green-ish color and I've thrown in a few accents of green for accessories. The floor (ugggh) can't be replaced just don't have the money it is THE ugliest but it's linoleum with pink/taupe diamonds in each square. What is the best color of paint to use? I was thinking more in the browns. The walls at the moment are white and have wooden trim. Also, best paint TYPE to use? Flat, gloss etc. Need answers quick, off to Menards shortly :)
