Why are people so fascinated?

I just dont understand why people are so fascinated/interested in celebrities and their lives. Who cares who Miley Cirus is dating? Does it affect you? No. Who cares who breaks up and whos knocked up? It happens to regular people every single day and no one cares. However if it happens to Lauren Conrad or Angelina Jolie, people are just shocked. The thing that gets me most is you dont even know the person. Like, really, you watch them on TV but its not like you know them. IDK I just have some spare time and thought I would get on here and rant. Thanks.
