Why would the president veto investigation of oil companies?

Because it would be a waste of taxpayer dollars and government time. In reality, the profits they are making are not that high. Yes, the number is astronomical, but the scope of the oil business is ginormous! And if you care to look at profit margins, oil companies make much less percentage than most other industries.
