Would it work if i use a normal permanent marker on a soft, cherokee t-shirt?

Cause like i wanna write something on my shirt but im not sure if it'll wash away the next time i wash it. if this doesnt work do u have any other ideas...?? u get like 5 or something points for answering and you'll boost my morale..if you care
